NCASP will utilize the NE-MARKAL model to analyze options for residential and commercial heating programs.

Policy Initiative:
Residential and Commercial Heating and Energy Efficiency

The heating of residential and commercial buildings represent nearly 20% of the energy consumption in New England.   Associated with this energy use are tremendous emissions of both greenhouse gases as well as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides which contribute to regional air pollution.   The introduction of low sulfur heating oil to the region, over the next several years, presents a unique opportunity to advance energy efficiency program opportunities that target older less efficient heating technologies.    NCASP will utilize the NE-MARKAL model to analyze options for residential and commercial heating programs, engage with regional manufacturers and distributors of heating technology, regional planning agencies and air quality and energy officials, and develop recommendations for implementing energy efficiency programs which benefit the economy, the environment and public health.
